Simple Appetizers to Celebrate Harvest Season

With a crisp chill in the air, here come the holidays and the most festive season for entertaining. In many ways, the most picturesque time where I live, the spectacle of changing leaves and skies. ‘Tis the season when I add golden yellows, saffron orange, and amber color to our dining table. I also like to turn to rich, deep shades of burgundy, green, and silver for our interiors.

I find that sharing good food, wine, and conversation with family or friends is one of the simple pleasures in life. It is the perfect time of year to invite a small group of friends over for an intimate dinner that celebrates nothing but the season of bounty. It’s an inviting time to have friends over for a drink by the fire. Or a holiday cocktail party, an impromptu hearty lunch, or dress up for a glamorous dinner with friends in the city.

As the harvest season is all about the celebration of bounty, I wanted the bites featured to celebrate the season’s best ingredients and flavors, as well.

While some finger foods certainly involve a lot of effort and cooking time, the preparation of most requires nothing more than slicing the components and arranging them on a platter.

So, for this season. I’ll be sharing some simple, delightful bites that encompass a balance of indulgent, fresh, flavorful, and simple to create for your family and friends.

01 | “Truffle Mushroom Goat Cheese Crostini” the luscious flavor of truffle oil makes these mushroom crostini an elegant and tasty appetizer. Perfect for serving a festive crowd and very simple to prepare.

02 | “Spicy Roasted Eggplant & Roasted Red Pepper Spread” with only a few ingredients, you can assemble this spread very quickly. Serve it with warm pita triangles. It has a rich and smoky flavor that draws you in for more. It gets a lovely lift from fresh lemon juice.

03 | “Miniature Croque Monsieur” make a statement at your gatherings with this ultimate comfort sandwich that can be cut into squares for serving as an elegant appetizer. A delicious hot French sandwich traditionally made with Ham. This version has turkey, gruyere, and cheddar.

04 | “Curried Chicken Salad in Phyllo Cups” This savory, sweet and spicy chicken salad is super flavorful. It gets a crunch from fennel and cranberries, a light and creamy texture from crème fraiche. Perfect little bites for cocktail parties.

05 | “Roasted Butternut Squash Crostini with Bacon” the flavors of butternut squash scream harvest to me with a sweet and savory in every bite. Butternut squash, whipped goat cheese, drizzle with honey balsamic vinaigrette.
